Be Wise Ranch has grown certified organic produce in the Santa Fe Valley, eight miles east of San Diego, since 1977 — founder Bill Brammer helped draft the state and federal legislation defining organic standards during his term as CCOF president. The coastal microclimate allows year-round growing of nationally known vine-ripe heirloom tomatoes, strawberries, squash, and greens, sold wholesale and through a CSA delivering weekly boxes to pickup points across San Diego County.

George Hillebrecht bought his first parcel of the ranch in Escondido in 1924, and continued to buy adjoining parcels as he could afford them, until he had 150 acres. His parents were citrus farmers from Orange County, and he chose this area because the land was affordable and they had a promising source of local water. George planted valencia oranges and lemons from his own nursery, and later planted fuerte avocados. He retired in the mid 50’s and his son Ben, Laura’s father, continued planting

Escondido

J.R. Organics is a fourth-generation family farm in Escondido, certified organic since 1986 — four decades of growing some of San Diego County's freshest produce. The farm delivers weekly and bi-weekly certified organic CSA farm boxes across the county, sells at more than a dozen farmers markets from Carlsbad to Temecula, and offers online pre-orders, with farm tours by appointment.
