Schoharie

Terrace Mountain Orchard sells ready-picked apples, cider, and what it calls its famous cider donuts from a farm stand in Schoharie, in the Schoharie Valley west of Albany. The stand opens weekends in fall, Friday through Sunday, 9am to 4pm, starting in mid-September. It's a straightforward autumn stop for apples and a bag of donuts rather than a large agritourism operation.

Pick-your-own from more than 50 apple varieties each fall, on land the Bellinger family has farmed since 1804. The orchard itself dates to 1930 and was among the first pick-your-own operations in the area. Summer brings blueberries, cherries, and peaches. The fall market at 685 Argersinger Road in Fultonville sells fresh cider, homemade cider donuts, pies, jams, honey, and maple, with weekend hayrides, a five-acre corn maze, and a pumpkin patch.

Fonda

Sand Flats Orchard grows apples on Martin Road in Fonda, in the Mohawk Valley of Montgomery County. It works the ridged farmland along the river, coming into its main season with the fall apple crop.

Johnstown

Rogers Family Orchards works County Highway 131 outside Johnstown, in Fulton County at the southern edge of the Adirondack foothills. It grows tree fruit suited to the cooler upland climate here.

Fly Creek

Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard has pressed cider on Goose Street near Cooperstown since 1856, and the shop stacks fresh cider alongside extra-sharp New York cheddar, fudge, and its own barbecue sauces and dip mixes. A tasting room pours hard ciders, wine, and spirits, and a restaurant serves farm dishes. Kids feed the ducks, pan for gemstones, and roam Tractorland. It's open seven days a week.

Altamont

A family-owned orchard and farm market at the base of the Helderberg escarpment in Altamont, running for more than 55 years. Apples anchor the operation, with pick-your-own strawberries in early summer and a bakery known for apple cider donuts, pies, and breads. The market also carries Northeast specialty foods, plants, and a gift shop, and ships fruit around the country from November to Christmas.
