Park Rapids

Carter's Red Wagon Farm traces back to 1955, when Russell Carter sold tomatoes off a wagon along Highway 71 before buying land near Park Rapids. Today the farm grows asparagus, rhubarb, and strawberries, with pick-your-own strawberries the only on-farm activity, usually starting in late June. Other produce is sold at The Red Barn in Park Rapids and at the Park Rapids and Walker farmers' markets. Call ahead, since hours track the harvest.

Park Rapids

Pike moved this corn maze in 2019 to the family's Prairie Pine Farm, about two miles south of Park Rapids on County Road 6. The maze itself is a 20-to-40-minute walk, with a straw castle, kiddie maze, corn bin, farm animals, hayrides, and pumpkins for the younger crowd. There was no 2025 season after a shift in plans for the land, though the family hoped to reopen. Call 218-255-3318 first.

Nevis

The Minnesota Emu Ranch raises emus near Nevis in the north-central lakes region and renders their oil into products for people, pets, and livestock. The same family runs a wildlife rescue and transport service alongside the ranch. Visitors can tour the property and meet the birds. A working emu farm paired with animal-rescue work.

Wadena

Green Island is a 60-acre woodland retreat on Scheer Drive NE in Wadena, free and open to the public daily from 9am to 9pm year-round. Kent Scheer and Vicki Chepulis planted three small apple orchards, a hill of crabapples, plum and aronia bushes, and a flower garden, laced with walking trails, a pond, and about 1,000 feet of creek. Sculptures and a meditation hut sit along the paths.

Pine River

Pick-your-own Northblue blueberries, a hardy Minnesota-bred variety, grown without chemicals near Pine River since 1994. The family farm opens roughly 9am to noon in late July and August, or by appointment when the berries are on. Call 218-587-2752 to confirm picking before you drive out.
