Mustard Seed Community Farm near Ames, Iowa is a Catholic Worker farm growing vegetables with community hands — twice-weekly harvest mornings open to all, workshares, internships, garlic-harvest potlucks, and prairie plant sales. The farm shares its harvest through a CSA and community meals, with a processing kitchen and hospitality space rooted in its mission of land stewardship and radical hospitality.

Dean and Judy Henry realized a dream by establishing the Berry Patch Farm in the early 1970s. Today you’ll see Judy at the markets, Dean on the tractors, and their son Mike at the stand and picking the freshest harvest. Throughout the Berry Patch you’ll see the personal touches of each individual involved. We grow strawberries, raspberries, vegetables, apples, and more. A Brief History The Beaverdale Farmers Market launched in 2012 at Beaverdale Park on Adams Avenue, hosting around 30 vendors weekly. From 2013 thru 2015, the market was located at 3422 Beaver Avenue, next to Boesen the Florist. From 2017 to 2019 the market was held on Urbandale Avenue on the west side of Beaver Avenue. We are accidental farmers. We started out attempting to get an abandoned pocket park cleaned up and updated. That started a multi-year journey working with the Parks and Rec department and City Council to allow the neighborhood itself to decide what would be done with a lot that is directly next to my home.
