La Conner Gardens has grown organic vegetables, flowers, and gourmet garlic since 2002 on 18 acres at 17389 Hulbert Rd near Mount Vernon in Skagit Valley. Garlic is the specialty: Inchelium Red, Chesnok Red, Romanian Red, and Elephant, sold for cooking or planting from August through December. Two unheated hoop houses stretch the season for heirloom tomatoes, beans, and peppers. A roadside stand sells fresh-picked produce and flowers March into winter.
