Brannagan's Orchard and Small Fruit Farm

The Brannagans grow apples on more than 300 trees plus raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries on their farm at Firth, about 15 miles south of Lincoln. They cook the fruit into jams, jellies, and syrups in their own kitchen and bake breads, rolls, and cookies. Their goods sell online and at the Seward market on Saturdays and the Beatrice market on Thursdays.

Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard

Unadilla, NE

Kimmel Orchard grows apples, peaches, Asian pears, blackberries, and strawberries on G Road near Nebraska City, east of Unadilla. Alongside the orchard rows it runs a vineyard with wine tasting, plus u-pick picking, hayrack rides, guided tours, and seasonal festivals through the fall. Kiser Orchard runs a pick-your-own operation outside Plattsmouth in southeast Nebraska. Depending on the season, you can pick apples, sour cherries, sweet corn, cucumbers, cabbage, beans, onions, tomatoes, and pumpkins. The sour cherries are the standout draw for pie and preserves, ripening in early summer before the fall apples come in. Martin's Hillside Orchard grows apples on Ashland Road near Ceresco, in Saunders County between Lincoln and Omaha. It's a fall destination for pick-your-own apples and pumpkins, with a farm market and orchard activities running through the harvest season.

Union Orchard

Union, NE

Union Orchard has worked the same ground for over a century in Nebraska's apple country at Union, south of Omaha on Highway 75. The orchard grows 18 apple varieties from Honeycrisp to Arkansas Black, plus wine grapes, pumpkins, and squash. Its store sells home-baked pies, cider donuts, apple and pumpkin butter, and Nebraska wines and hard cider. Fall visits add pick-your-own apples and pumpkins and hayrides through the farm.
