Organic Farms in Michigan

A.W. Overhiser Orchards

South Haven, MI

Overhiser Orchards has grown fruit on 109th Avenue in South Haven, Michigan, since 1863. Sweet cherries come in late June, blueberries run July through August, and peaches follow through mid-summer, all available U-pick. The farm market stocks fresh and frozen fruit, honey, maple syrup, jams, and fresh donuts, and the grounds add an animal barn, wagon rides, and a bounce-house play area for kids. Open daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including holidays.

Bluestem Farm

East Jordan, MI

We learned about cold weather farming from other farmers. Before Bluestem Farm, we worked on a biodynamic farm outside St. Petersburg, Russia. Then a diversified organic raw-milk dairy in northern New England. Even when we lived in New York City, we kept chickens and had a container garden. We moved around a lot, but it looks like farming just kept following us.

Cedar Field Farm

Cedar Field Farm is a human-scale regenerative farm in Romulus, Michigan cultivating veggies, mushrooms, herbs, and flowers — and partnering with more than 20 local farms to bring the best of Michigan to metro Detroit. Weekly, biweekly, and monthly produce and flower subscriptions run June to November with neighborhood pickups in Allen Park, Dearborn, Detroit, Grosse Pointe Park, and Oak Park.

Coveyou Scenic Farm Market

Petoskey, MI

Coveyou Scenic Farm Market sells organic produce, Michigan-made grocery goods, and annual and perennial flowers from a historic barn on US-131 south of Petoskey, overlooking Walloon Lake. The operation traces back to 1874, a century and a half of family farming on the same ground. Beyond the market stand, it carries Amish-made outdoor furniture and local art, and runs a seasonal produce membership starting at $100 a month.

Eden Store

Clinton, MI

Eden Foods in Clinton, Michigan is one of the country's oldest natural food companies, selling organic and traditionally made staples — Edensoy soymilk, canned and dried beans, whole grains and flours, whole grain pastas, and a deep pantry of Japanese imports from mirin and kuzu root to toasted sesame oil and ume plum vinegar.

Firefly Fields

Firefly Fields connects you directly to the Jennings Family Farm, a three-generation, certified organic, bee-friendly operation of 450 diversified acres in Michigan, established 1979. The farm collects raw varietal honey exclusively from its own land, grows buckwheat, spelt, corn, soybeans, and black beans, and stone-mills organic whole-grain flours the old-fashioned way.

Good Land Growers

Greenville, MI

Good Land Growers farms near Greenville, in Montcalm County's mixed row-crop and orchard country north of Grand Rapids. No hours, products, or contact details were verifiable online — contact the farm directly for current offerings.

North Farm at UPREC

The North Farm at MSU's Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center in Chatham, Michigan is dedicated to certified organic specialty crop research and hosts a farm business incubator growing the next generation of U.P. farmers. Part of an 827-acre facility established in 1899, the center runs public field days, twilight tours, student field trips, and workshops for farmers transitioning to organic, alongside a South Farm herd of experimental grass-fed Red Angus.

People's Food Co-op

Ann Arbor, MI
